The environment

A Grid is a network of edge services, seamlessly accessible by authorized users in order to perform distributed computations.

Users optimize their operations by selecting edge services that fit two basic criteria:

• offer the appropriate level of service,
• are able to perform efficiently a distributed computation.

The application of the second criterion is based upon the knowledge of the potential performance of the communication infrastructure that supports the distributed computation.
