Basic Concepts

The communication infrastructure schema we are working out introduces some basic concepts, and we try to understand its impact on the structure of the Grid.

In fact, to effectively simplify the reality, we need to introduce assumptions about the real Grid, that turn out to be requirements on the Grid structure.

Our investigation is carried out using UML as a fast prototyping tool: relationships between concepts are layed out using this graphical language.

Basically, we need to introduce the following concepts:

  • Edge Services: that use or monitor the communication infrastructure;
  • Domains: that partition Edge Services into disjoint sets;
  • Network Services: that implement the communication infrastructure between Domains.
