Partitioning a monitoring system into LDAP subtrees
LDAP supports a solution that compensates the weaknesses of the NWS
architecture:
- parts of the DIT (that represents the database) can be replicated
on possibly distinct servers, thus providing fault tolerance through
data replication;
- the access to parts of the DIT can be restricted, thus ensuring
security;
Splitting a large monitoring system into NWS (sub)systems whose components
are registered in a common DIT
- preserves the possibility of searching the whole monitoring
service for a given measure and
- introduces the presence of multiple nameservers, thus eliminating
a communication bottleneck and a source of unreliability.
