Mapping the NWS structure into the Datagrid DIT
The DATAGRID DIT and NWS have conflicting definitions:
- DATAGRID supports log based monitoring tools: they are
characterized by the local availability of raw measures (the log),
located on the host where the tool runs;
- NWS is a distributed tool, whose measures can be accessed through
a specific query to a remote host, and are not, in general, available
locally to the host that runs the tool.
If we adopt the DATAGRID DIT structure "as is", we have te
indicate, for each site, a designated host that queries
the NWS nameserver, and populates the DIT.
We incur in a number of problems:
- all designated hosts should share some
information. For instance, the names of the identifier (ou) associated
to the sites, the sensors to site mapping, the address of the NWS
nameserver: modifying such information is at best troublesome;
- all queries from the designated hosts should be
addressed to the remote nameserver, which in its turn routes the
request to the memories: this is expensive.
