Title: Bitcoin Privacy.
Abstract: The aim of the presentation is to analyze the current state of Bitcoin privacy. We'll present the state of the art attacks known on Bitcoin anonymity reviewing the available literature. In particular we're gonna show theory, potentials, examples and countermeasures of bitcoin network listening and deanonymization attacks.

Title: Basic introduction to Spiking Neural P System, a simple overview.
Abstract: In this presentation is given a brief presentation of P Systems formalism based on the
work of Gheorghe Paun. P system is a computational model in the field of computer science that performs calculations using a biologically-inspired process. They are based upon the structure of biological cells, abstracting from the way in which chemicals interact and cross cell membranes, over the original model many improvement and variants was proposed to expand the application this computational method can be used for, one of this is based on brain structure and how net of brain cells works together. The Spiking Neural P System then it is one of the most interesting evolutions of original P Systems and still one open field of research and here we will give a brief, and I hope inspiring, introduction to them.

Title: Coordination for Graph-shaped Computational Fields.
Abstract: We illustrate our approach with a case study based on a disaster recovery scenario, implemented in a prototype simulator that we use to evaluate the performance of a recovery strategy (joint work with Alberto Lluch Lafuente, DTU Lyngby, and Michele Loreti, Florence).

Speaker: Daniele De Sensi.
Title: Opportunities for energy aware computing
Abstract: Power consumption is becoming a key factor in designing applications and computing systems. This is motivated both by economic and environmental reasons. In fact, the energy cost is quickly going to overcome the cost of the physical system itself. Moreover, high power consumption causes high temperature in the system, increasing the probability of failure of the physical components and requiring advanced heat management systems, that proportionally increase the cost by one dollar for each dollar spent in electricity. Similarly, energy consumption has a considerable impact on the environment, since during 2010 the CO2 emissions of US' data centers were on par with those of an entire country like Argentina.
In this seminar I will show techniques and tools to analyse and reduce the power consumption of parallel applications, with an outline of state of the art solutions.
- 6 October 2015
Speaker: Salvatore Trani.
Title: Introduction to word embeddings
Abstract: In the last few years, word embeddings have become increasingly popular, although they were originally introduced by Bengio et al. more than a decade ago. Beyond that, they proved to outperform previous state of the art models in many applications, ranging from computer vision to voice recognition, including word similarity and analogy detection. These methods attempt to capture the semantic meanings of words by processing huge unlabeled corpora with methods inspired by neural networks and the recent onset of Deep Learning. The result is a vectorial representation of every word in a low-dimensional continuous space. These word vectors are useful for computing the semantic similarity between two words as well as for using them as features for various supervised NLP tasks (e.g., NER, sentiment analysis, document classification).
In this seminar I will describe the main techniques and tools to train word vectors, some interesting property they exhibit as well as some applications.
- 20 October 2015
Speaker: Marco Potenziani.
Title: Methodologies For Effectively Publishing High Resolution 3D Content On The Web
Abstract: The capability to handle 3D content has been acquired by modern browsers recently. In fact only in the last years, the hardware evolution paired to the Web related software growth and also to the network infrastructures capabilities extension, have created the suitable conditions to turn 3D contents into a standard Web media layer. Despite this, few solutions have been really able to fully exploit this opportunity, developing a comprehensive and performant system able to lead step by step to a fast and easy integration of 3D models into a Web page. This seminar will introduce new methodologies specifically designed to overcome these issues.

Title: A tour through Mathematical Logic towards Fuzzy Logic and the probability of vague events
Abstract: Mathematical logic studies correct reasoning, and the idea around which every logic evolves is the concept of truth, and the way it spreads through the propositions. We will see the different concepts of truth from which respectively classical logic, intuitionistic logic and fuzzy logic were born, exploring foundational issues. Then we will see how universal algebra becomes a perfect setting to study all of these logics. In the end, we will focus on how it is possible to relate fuzzy logic to probability theory, always with an algebraic flavour, dealing in particular with the subjective foundation and with the concept of many-valued events.
