Theory of quantum groups as we see it
today is a branch of pure Mathematics, but it has its origin in integrable
physical systems. We give an introductory review on the appearance and
the role they play in various models in statistical mechanics and field theory.
This talk is addressed to an audience which is not familiar with (but has
some curiosity in) the subject.
